Profile: Harpur Memorial Hospital is a 75-bed, full-service, Christian charity hospital that has served the community for more than 100 years. Last year it treated more than 130,000 outpatients and performed more than 2,000 major surgeries. The hospital is known for its excellent medical services, its compassionate service to rich and poor alike, and its love for Jesus Christ.

Time Difference: 7 hours ahead of U.S. EDT and 8 hours ahead of U.S. EST

Travel: Commercial airline flights to Cairo on a variety of carriers, then a 2 to 3-hour drive from the airport to Menouf. The hospital usually sends a van to pick up visitors and drive them the 75 kilometers (through heavy traffic on secondary, paved roads) to the hospital.

Climate: Summer: 90 – 115 F / Fall: 70 – 85 F / Winter: 45 – 65 F / Spring: 65 – 80 F. In the Spring and Fall it occasionally rains for 5 to 10 minutes at a time, but not enough to produce puddles.

Housing: Visitors are housed in one of the hospital’s two guest apartments on the 3rd floor of the hospital.  Room and board charges cover a private room with a bathroom, living and dining space, and full kitchen. Meals include a make-your-own breakfast and one hot meal a day provided by the hospital. The kitchen is equipped with a gas stove, microwave, refrigerator,and  toaster. In addition, there is access to a washing machine and laundry soap for washing clothes. A large, modern grocery store is located 50 meters from the hospital entrance and is open 6-1/2 days a week from 7 am to 10 pm at night. It offers a wide variety of fresh fruits, fresh vegetables, frozen meats, lunch meats, dried fruits, nuts, potato chips, ice cream, a variety of breads, rice, pasta, and other foods. Internet access is available most of the time.
