Become a Resident – Tenwek Hospital, General Surgery and Orthopaedic Programs

Both Tenwek’s General Surgery Training program and Orthopaedic Surgery Training programs are five-year MCS (2 years) plus FCS (3 years) programs fully accredited by the College of Surgeons of East, Central and Southern Africa (COSECSA). COSECSA is an independent body that fosters postgraduate education in surgery and provides surgery training throughout the regions of East, Central and Southern Africa. COSECSA is a non-profit making body in the constituent countries of Burundi, Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe. It is good to familiarize yourself with COSECSA because that is the body that will be giving the certifying exams at the Member of College of Surgeons (MCS) level after two years of training and the Fellow of College of Surgeons (FCS) level after five years of training. You will be required to pass all COSECSA exams.
