PAACS Task Forces

Africa is significantly underserved in the area of surgical services.  General surgeons provide approximately 90% of surgical services, including those which would ordinarily be considered the realm of surgical or medical subspecialists.  Training a general surgery resident who much take care of the "skin and its contents" is a daunting task.  As general surgeons, the faculty of the Pan-African Academy of Christian surgeons (PAACS) is very grateful for help from our colleagues who are specialists.

A task force is comprised of volunteers in a particular specialty who are willing to assist in training general surgeons at the PAACS's hospitals in Africa.   The responsibilities of the task force would include:

  1. Training of Program Directors (highest priority)
  2. Development of an appropriate curriculum (including self-assessment tools) and teaching aids
  3. Training of general surgery residents
  4. Equipping of each training site
  5. Financing of the above priorities
  6. Interaction with PAACS administration and the local training sites

Current Task Forces

  1. Anesthesia
  2. Ob/Gyn
  3. Orthopedics
  4. Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery
  5. Urology
